About Bowland Soap

Approaching their first Christmas at The Hidden Door, a Gift & Interiors shop in Slaidburn, proprietors, Fiona and Carol realised there was great demand for selling herbal soaps in their shop. Feeling disillusioned with the natural soap that was available on the market they wondered if it would be possible to make their own.

Following extensive research they discovered the old traditional way was to use the cold processed method. This meant their soaps would be handmade from scratch and they would know exactly what would be going into them.

Throughout the winter months they spent many hours blending natural ingredients, essential oils and botanicals to create their first batch of soap. The method used meant they had to wait 4 weeks for the soap to cure before they could use it. What a long 4 weeks it was but well worth the wait! The quality of the soap was amazing compared to the commercially bought stuff.

This inspired Fiona and Carol to continue and they soon found soapmaking very addictive. They began experimenting with different recipes and when several different bars had been produced, they decided to take the plunge and have the soap safety tested to comply with EU legislation and regulations.

Easter 2007 saw the launch of Bowland Soap, a traditional handmade soap made in the beautiful Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB).
